Airborne Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) Systems

Ultra Electronics supplies over 70% of NATO's sonobuoys, offering a range of active and passive sonobuoys for maritime coastal surveillance applications, harbour protection and anti-submarine warfare.

The latest generation of sonobuoys includes long-life sonobuoys for coastal surveillance as designs for Multi-Static ASW (MSA) operations. As well as providing sonobuoy telemetry receivers, sonobuoy positioning systems and AQS 970 / 971 acoustic processors, Ultra has now also been awarded a contract to supply the MoD with a full multi-static active processing capability providing search, localisation and attack options.

Data Link Systems

Ultra produces a full range of acoustic data communication systems and sub-systems including multi-link processors providing Link 11 / 16 and 22 capability in a single, compact unit with integral programmable crypto. We also provide high-integrity data control modules for trusted communication with autonomous and semi-autonomous vehicles.
Ultra Electronics provides complex systems of systems that encompass sensors, data links and networking to deliver a true ISTAR systems capability providing targeting pods to UK Typhoons and Tornados and the BLADE loitering munition UAV.

Sonar Systems

Ultra Electronics specialises in the study, design and manufacture of electronic and sonar systems for the international naval and oceanographic markets. Ultra undertakes a wide range of development, manufacturing and support tasks for military, commercial and research applications.

Electronic and sonar system offerings include:

• Medium frequency bow sonar (hull-mounted) and towed-array sonar systems
• ARTEMES – high-resolution sidescan and synthetic aperture sonar for both military and civil survey applications, including mine hunting
• Structural integrity systems for ships, oil platforms, gas cylinders and oil pipe lines
• COTS / NDI-based sonar solutions for both surface ships and submarines

Submarine Communication Systems

Network Enabled Communications-enabled communications allowing submarine communication at great speed and depth is are a key requirement of modern navies. Ultra's unique Recoverable Tethered Optical Fibre (RTOF) system allows satellite communication by submarine without leaving a wake or plume or requiring the submarine to come to periscope depth.

Torpedo Defence Systems

With the continuing proliferation of modern submarines and increasing emphasis on littoral waters there is a growing need to equip warships, naval auxiliaries and submarines with effective protection against torpedoes.

Ultra Electronics offers complete torpedo defence sensors to display system solutions ships and submarines including:

• Fixed and towed sonar sensors
• Detection, classification and localisation processing systems
• Threat evaluation and tactical advice
• Countermeasure selection, programming and launch control
• Expendable and towed torpedo countermeasures

The SEA SENTOR surface ship torpedo defence system – which is in service with the UK's Royal Navy, installed on US platforms, and has been ordered by the Turkish Navy – is the most advanced system available in the market today.

The SEA TUDAS system is a complete underwater defence aids suite, offering protection against not only torpedoes, but also against UUVs and AUVs. It also detects submarines and other launch platforms by a single in-line towed array system.

Ultra is also the consortium lead-company for the TRAPR DCL programme, which provides active torpedo detection, classification, localisation as well as Anti-Torpedo Torpedo (ATT) response targeting for the US DoD.

Finally, as sole provider of all expendable torpedo countermeasures for UK, US and Australia, Ultra's SEA CRYPSIS system provides a complete torpedo detection, classification and countermeasure capability for submarines.
